The story is about two brothers – Prem in America (Sachin Khedekar) and Om in India (Mohan Agashe). The opening scene is a call from Prem, in America, to his sister-in-law, Asha (Anju Mahendru). He tells her of his good fortune in America, which prompts her to egg on her husband, Om, to try their fortune in America. Meanwhile, Om’s daughter, Sanjana (Sheetal Sheth) is accepted to an American College. Om, a Colonel in the Indian Army, does not want to leave India and his secure job, but on Asha’s insistence that it is the best option for their daughter, Sanjana, he agrees.

The family travels to America where they realize Prem has lied and is barely making ends meet. The family is forced to take whatever jobs they can get to help support themselves. Sanjana starts college and makes some bad decisions that leave her with harsh realities. The American dream they had all envisioned and idealized quickly dissolves and changes their world forever.
