25 years ago a few of us South Asians were creating and dreaming of something different than our parents envisioned for us. We didn't have any guidance or folks to 'look up' to but we took a leap. On ourselves. Because we wanted to live the life we wanted. I met DJ Rekha decades ago when we were two of these dreamers. She started a movement in the basement of a club. So much so that she gave rise to parties in NY that became the talk of the town. People would come from all over to get their groove on. So many years later, I’m able to take my kids to Central Park for an epic party (which is just one of many!) and my littles don’t have to know a world where they aren’t cool.
